Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is the President of the SDM Educational Society and the Dharmadhikaari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, a position he assumed at the age of 20. He has held this role for over 57 years. His leadership encompasses the management of the SDME Society's educational institutions, which range from primary to doctoral levels.
Beyond education, he is recognized for his involvement in rural development through the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), which focuses on agricultural development, women's empowerment, and microfinance. He also established the Rural Development and Self-Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) to provide vocational training.
In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushana, the second highest Civilian Award given by the Government of India, in recognition of his educational and charitable initiatives. He has been serving as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha since 2022 as an acknowledgement of his nationwide popularity and contribution to social welfare.
